DIY: How to Make a Chicken Wire Christmas Tree

Learn how to make a Christmas tree using chicken wire and leftover Christmas decor in 2 easy steps!
Have some leftover garland or Christmas decor that you're not sure what to do with? Or that empty corner of the living room that is just begging for some holiday cheer? Well this chicken wire tree is the perfect easy craft to fill that void!
Supplies:
Gloves
Wire Cutters
Wire (normally a piece comes with chicken wire roll)
Flowers/garland
Step 1: Cut Chicken Wire
Depending on how large you want your Christmas tree to be--you will want to cut a rectangular piece of chicken wire. We measured ours about 4 ft x 6ft.
Step 2: Roll Chicken Wire from Corner to Corner
Starting at the bottom corner, roll the chicken wire towards the opposite top corners to form a point--that will be the top of your Christmas tree. While wearing gloves, gently squeeze the wire until it has the cone/tree shape you want.
Step 3: Secure Roll with Wire

Most rolls of chicken wire come with a long string of wire to hold the roll together. If you don't have have one--you can buy rolled wire separately. Take your wire and weave it through the edges on the side to keep the cone from unraveling. You can also hook the wire edges of the chicken wire around each opening to keep it in place.
Step 4: Trim Edges
Next, with your wire cutters, trim away any excess wire at the bottom. Turn the edges outwards so that the tree can stand on its own. Trim away any excess pieces in the side and top too.
Step 5: Decorate with Christmas trimmings
Now is time to decorate your tree! You can really go crazy here and do any thing. We had some left over floral arrangements we bought from Micheals so we dissected those and stuck them in various places throughout the tree. You could also hook ornaments all over the tree or take ribbon and run it down the sides of the tree from top to bottom. Or maybe a full on spray paint in different colors could be fun. Lots of possibilities here!
